I saw John Scofield play at WUK - a five minute walk from where I live. It was incredible. He played mostly gospel music since that's what his new album is, but the songs where all in the "Scofield" style. The style I mean turned the songs into funky, bluesy tunes.
Here's the video I took on my camera.
The only concert I could come close to comparing it with would be when I saw Mike Stern at 55 Bar in NYC. I have to say, Stern was better - if only because of the setting. An intimate dive bar beats standing in a concert hall any day. I think that jazz concerts (the group in which I lump these two shows) should be in a place that has low lights and small tables with a few chairs around them. The Scofield concert was set up more like a rock concert - standing room only with the stage raised about a yard off the floor (I suppose that would be a meter here). The turnout was pretty good, though, and the audience was very responsive. It was a good crowd to see the concert with.
Since I'm still waiting for this damn video to upload: I had a rather productive day. I printed out my reciepts for the planes I'll be on, though I forgot to print out the ticket for the boat to Ibiza. I rerented my room here, which is nice. I don't have to move all my stuff. Then I cleaned my room. The process still isn't done, but it looks a helluva lot better.
